BOARD MEETING APRIL 24, 2013

 

Present:  D. Barnes, D. Blough, P. Ceo, D. Cunkle, P. Bunten, L. Crossey, P. Lilley, Joan Roth, B. Hubbard.

Absent:  R. Amsler, B. Westlake, J. Low

 

Meeting called to order at 7:05 by D. Barnes.

 

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Corrected minutes from the March 27, 2013 meeting were provided to all Board Members Moved to accept minutes with corrections P. Bunten seconded D. Cunkle.  Passed

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Deferred until next month. 

 

BRECON NIGHT 2013.  APRIL 26, 2013 AT AMERICAN LEGION

To date, 41 people have made reservations via phone.  None have been reserved via the Gmail account.  The email account is cumbersome as it necessitates setting up an account, providing a password, etc.  Last year 70 plus people attended.

 

TABLE FLOWERS --- Joan Roth has arranged.  Cost of the flowers:  $66.00

 

ENTERTAINMENT --- “Sugar Factory” a five piece jazz band will perform at intervals throughout the evening, but not during dinner.

 

PUBLICITY --- Information about Brecon Night appeared in the WAAM Community Calendar, The Saline Post, and The Saline Patch.  Signs announcing Brecon Night have been placed around the city.  The Brecon Flags will fly on the Four Corners – uptown.

 

AUCTIONS – SILENT AND LIVE.  D. Cunkle and D. Barnes have obtained more than 50 items for the silent auction from local (Saline and Ann Arbor) merchants. .Individuals are also supplying items. The live auction will consist of the “Ambassadors’ Jewels” and a jewelry donation from Lewis Jewelers, Ann Arbor.

 

VOLUNTEERS FOR SET-UP - at10 AM on April 26.  Pam Ceo, Dick Cunkle, Joan Roth, Betsey Hubbard, Pat and Glenna Ivey and Dottie Barnes volunteered.

 

AGENDA FOR THE EVENING – Welcome by Paul Bunten, MC. Introductions by Dottie Barnes, Invocation by Jack Ceo.  Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM.  After dinner – Live Auction by Don Shelton.  Silent auction results – Paul Bunten.

 

SUGGESTIONS FOR NOW AND FUTURE BRECON NIGHTS – Place the value and/or a minimum bid on the Silent Auction items. 

Include Brecon Night information in the FYI publication that is mailed to the Saline residents with their water bill.  Announce the menu on the website and in the written publicity to the public.

 

SALINE VISIT TO BRECON SEPTEMBER 10-24, 2013.

Hosting assignments confirmed.  See list provided by P. Bunten and J. Roth.   Brecon is requesting a deposit on the Cornwall trip be sent ASAP. This will confirm the booking.  As a $200 deposit has been paid by each traveler Jim Roth  suggested paying the full amount to avoid a second transfer fee.  Each traveler is asked to send $185 to the SBFG treasurer. The total cost of the Cornwall trip is approximately 6,000 pounds or $9, 164. 30.  One check will be sent to Brian Newmann, treasurer of the Twinning Assn. This method will avoid a second transfer fee.  All Brecon travelers will be notified of above.

 

GIFT FOR THE BRECON HOST FAMILIES – Accent Jewelers is donating a sterling silver necklace with a dragon pendant for the silent auction.  Dick Cunkle suggested Brecon travelers explore the possibility of purchasing multiple necklaces as  hostess gifts.

 

RUBY TUESDAY GIVE BACK DAY --- The next one is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2013.

NEXT BOARD MEETING --- Scheduled for Wednesday May 22, 2013 at 7 PM at the Primrose Kitchenette at Brecon Village.
