The Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild is happy to welcome 29 Brecon visitors to Saline on this 35th anniversary year of our sister city relationship. There are several events planned throughout the visit and many of them are open to all members of the Guild (and all potential members as well!). During the visit our Brecon guests will be out and about in town and will have special nametags. Please say "Hello" and be sure to welcome them "home" to Saline.
Sept. 6, 2001, 7:00 p.m. Union School
Mayor Gretchen Driskell and the Saline City Council officially welcomed Mayor Arthur Bowley and the group from Wales. In addition to the current Mayors, three former Mayors of Brecon attended and four former Mayors of Saline welcomed old and new friends.

September 7, 2001, 7:00 p.m. Saline Fair
The Fiddlers from Saline High School presented a special concert at the Saline Fair. The Fiddlers have become very well known and have traveled and performed nationally and internationally, including a very successful concert in Brecon. The Concert honored the Brecon visitors. Mayor Arthur Bowley made a special presentation of Millennium Medallions to Fiddlers leaders Bob and Pam Phillips.

Sept. 8, 2001, 1:00 p.m.
Mayor and Mayoress Arthur and Dilys Bowley led the parade in a car with Judge and Mrs. Don and Marjorie Shelton followed by the Guild banner with many of the visitors, host families and other Guild members. The Saline crowd lining the parade route was enthusiastic and welcomed the Brecon friends with rousing applause along the entire length of the parade.

Sept. 9, 2001, 4:30 p.m. Curtiss Park Pavilion
The weather threatened and even rained for a while but the picnic at Curtiss Park still went off without a hitch. Over 60 people attended to eat, play, talk and enjoy good friendship.

Sept. 10 - 14, 2001
Our Brecon visitors and many of their host families will be on a bus tour to Grand Rapids and southwest Michigan, Chicago, and then the Amish community of Napanee, Indiana.

Sept. 15, 2001, 10:00 a.m. University of Michigan Golf Club
The University of Michigan football game was cancelled out of respect for the victims of the murders at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Sept. 17, 2001, 8:30 a.m. Rustic Glenn Golf Course
The Brecon visitors broke Saline's string of golf outing victories when they bested their hosts and took the Bowley trophy home.

Sept. 18, 2001, 6:00 p.m. TriCounty Sportsmen League
A large turnout of Salinians joined host families and Brecon guests for a rousing farewell party at the Tri-County Sportsman's Club.
